Week #2: Discovery Exercises - Genealogy

Well, I didn't find my grandparents - but I did find my great-grandparents in the 1920 census, which makes sense, because my grandfather fought as a young man in World War II, so he wasn't even a gleam in their eyes then. However, I didn't know that my great-grandmother, Anna, was from Michigan, or that my grandfather's father, John, was born in Ireland and that he worked at the depot as an operator.

  1. Thanks ConnorsMom for posting the link to your post under the comments section for week2. My apologies for just seeing it now. Glad you were able to discovery a few unknown details of your family through this week's exercise. Library patrons will likely be starting from the same perspective as you, with little info to go on, they may even give up when they can't find their parents, perhaps not realizing the limitations of a resource based on census data that is only indexed from 1930 and earlier. The next step in using these resources is piecing together the puzzle.
